Gwangju Medical Association "Supreme Court, Prompt Judgment on Suspension of Medical School Expansion Effect"

"Destruction of South Korea's Medical System Still Underway"
"Hasty Medical Policies Begin from Rulers' Emotional Aspects"

Gwangju Medical Association "Supreme Court, Prompt Judgment on Suspension of Medical School Expansion Effect" Gwangju Medical Association.

Medical organizations in the Gwangju area have urged the Supreme Court to make a swift and reasonable decision regarding the injunction suspension lawsuit on the increase of medical school admissions currently pending.

The Gwangju Medical Association issued a press release on the 16th, stating, "If a swift and reasonable decision is made on the 'injunction suspension lawsuit to suspend the effect of the university admission plan change approval,' which was filed in August this year and is currently pending at the Supreme Court, it will be the last chance to protect South Korea's healthcare system, which is collapsing under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."

The Medical Association pointed out, "We have clearly confirmed the reality of the current government through the unprecedented martial law and the irresponsible behavior of the president and bureaucrats," adding, "Despite the lifting of martial law and the impeachment of the president, the destruction of South Korea's healthcare system, which has been ongoing since February under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, is still in progress."

They stated, "The subjects referred to in the martial law proclamation as 'to be punished under the Martial Law Act' were the medical professionals who have supported South Korea's healthcare," and appealed, "The angry phrases directed at residents and medical staff within the proclamation make us realize that the rushed medical policies of the Yoon Seok-yeol government, including the increase in medical school admissions, started and were pushed forward based on the emotional aspects of the rulers, unrelated to public health."

Furthermore, they said, "The way to stop the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's medical manipulation lies in withdrawing the government's medical school admission increase policy, which has no scientific basis and is destroying the medical and educational fields," explaining, "The applicants for the injunction suspension lawsuit have submitted a total of 12 urgent hearing and decision requests due to the tight schedule related to admissions, and have submitted 8 reference briefs urging a prompt decision, but the judiciary has yet to make a ruling."

The Medical Association emphasized, "The announcement and promotion of the policy to increase medical school admissions by 2,000 students, which was almost like a military operation, has no scientific basis whatsoever," and urged, "We call on the judiciary to make a swift and just decision on the injunction suspension lawsuit pending at the Supreme Court regarding the Yoon Seok-yeol administration's medical and educational policies."
