Ito Hideki, Financial Services Agency Minister, Exchanges Views on Key Bilateral Capital Market Issues
Lee Bokhyun Explains "Proactive Market Stabilization Measures Amid Political Uncertainty, Stable Management"
The financial authorities will hold the 8th Korea-Japan Financial Supervisory Regular Meeting over two days, June 16-17, in Tokyo, Japan.
At the high-level meeting on the 16th, Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, and Ito Hideki, Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency, exchanged views on the global economic and financial situation as well as key issues in the capital markets of both countries.
Governor Lee explained that despite recent domestic political uncertainties, the market has generally stabilized as a result of the Korean financial authorities' prompt market stabilization measures. He added that the Korean government plans to continue implementing proactive market stabilization measures and manage the current situation consistently and stably.
He also stated that from a long-term perspective, efforts to enhance market confidence will be consistently pursued through ongoing capital market advancement tasks such as improving corporate governance and value-up programs. In response, Commissioner Ito emphasized the importance of maintaining close and timely communication between Korea and Japan to ensure financial market stability in the East Asian region.
Going forward, the Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service will continue to communicate actively with major financial authorities, including Japan’s Financial Services Agency, to explain Korea’s financial and economic situation and policy directions, while strengthening financial supervisory cooperation.
Meanwhile, on the 17th, the financial authorities plan to hold a working-level meeting on sustainable finance and the implementation status of Basel III between the two countries.
