Gwangju Emergency Action "Constitutional Court Must 'Dismiss' Yoon, Chief of Rebellion"

Continuing Weekly Rallies Every Saturday at 5·18 Minju Plaza

The ‘Yoon Seok-yeol Regime Immediate Resignation and Social Reform Gwangju Emergency Action,’ composed of civic groups in the Gwangju area, called for the impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol and strict punishment for those responsible for the insurrection.

On the afternoon of the 16th, Gwangju Emergency Action held a press conference at the Dong-gu Jeonil Building 245 Citizen Maru, stating, “We will continue our rallies through the struggle to punish those responsible for the insurrection, including the arrest and investigation of Yoon Seok-yeol, and to dismantle the People Power Party, which rejected impeachment.”

They emphasized, “Since the condition for complete victory is punishment, the arrest and investigation of the insurrection ringleader Yoon Seok-yeol and a strict investigation of those involved in the insurrection must be carried out.”

Referring to the 12 votes in favor from the ruling party during the impeachment vote of President Yoon held at the National Assembly plenary session on the afternoon of the 14th, Gwangju Emergency Action said, “We will launch a struggle to dismantle the People Power Party, which betrayed the people and colluded with the insurrection for its own political interests.”

They continued, “The social and political conditions of the illegal insurrection lie in ‘incomplete reform,’” and stressed, “We will create a public forum to build a new Republic of Korea and fight to ensure that politicians fulfill the people’s mandate.”

Meanwhile, Gwangju Emergency Action plans to hold a general rally of Gwangju citizens every Saturday starting from the 21st at the 5·18 Democracy Square.
