180,000 Cases · 21.6 Billion Charged... Payment Due by the 31st of This Month
On the 16th, Gwangju City imposed 180,000 cases of the second half-year (July to December) automobile tax, totaling 21.6 billion KRW. The payment deadline is until the 31st of this month.
The automobile tax is a regular tax levied on the registered owners of automobiles, motorcycles, and construction machinery, imposed twice a year (June 1 and December 1). This second half-year automobile tax covers the ownership period from July to December.
Taxpayers who have paid the annual automobile tax in a lump sum are excluded from this charge, and those who newly registered, transferred, or deregistered their vehicles during the second half of the year will be charged a prorated tax based on the ownership period.
The automobile tax can be paid directly at all financial institutions nationwide. Even without a tax notice, payment can be made using passbooks, cash cards, or credit cards at ATMs of all banks nationwide.
Payments can also be made using the virtual account or local tax revenue account specified on the notice through the bank’s internet/mobile banking, ATM transfers, or automated response systems.
Kim Dae-jeong, head of the Taxation Division, urged, “Please make the payment within the deadline to avoid penalties such as a 3% surcharge after the due date.”
Meanwhile, if you apply for electronic delivery or automatic payment for automobile tax, resident tax (individual), property tax, and registration license tax, a tax credit of 500 KRW per notice will be granted from the month following the application. If both electronic delivery and automatic payment are applied for together, a tax credit benefit of 1,000 KRW can be received.
