Broadcaster Kim Eo-jun sparked controversy by claiming that "during the emergency martial law situation on December 3, the martial law troops attempted to assassinate Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party." In response, Kim Byung-joo, a member of the National Assembly's National Defense Committee (NDC) from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated that he "places weight on the possibility that the allegation is true."

Kim, a retired army general, appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the 16th and said, "Currently, a lot of information is leaking from the U.S. side," expressing this view.

The 'Han Dong-hoon assassination' allegation surfaced after Kim Eo-jun, who was reportedly a target for arrest during the martial law period, testified at the National Assembly on the 13th that he had "received a tip-off that there was an order to assassinate Representative Han during the martial law." Before publicly revealing the tip-off, Kim stated that he was the first person to report the existence of a martial law troop 'assassination squad' to Assemblyman Kim. Regarding the source of the tip-off, he replied that it was "an allied country with an embassy in South Korea."

Assemblyman Kim said, "Probably even now, the U.S. is wiretapping the presidential office," adding, "That might be why on the 12th, U.S. House Representative Brad Sherman said, 'Even if North Korea tries to stage provocations, the U.S. can tell what is really going on.'" He continued, "Although such information is gradually leaking out, it will not be easy for the U.S. to reveal these facts because if they do, they would have to admit to wiretapping." However, Assemblyman Kim did not disclose clear evidence for these claims and only said, "We are still verifying."

"Yoon Attempts to Overcome Political Crisis Through 'North Korea Scare Tactics Manipulation'"

Assemblyman Kim also said, "It appears that the Yoon Seok-yeol administration tried to overcome its political crisis through martial law." He explained, "The government has continuously tried to fabricate North Korea scare tactics by provoking local incidents using loudspeakers aimed at the North and unmanned drones over Pyongyang, but since North Korea responded with dirty balloons and other means, escalation did not occur." He added, "We have a strong suspicion that the martial law situation was created as an extension of this."

He went on to say, "The Yoon administration is suspected of causing such incidents domestically to create social chaos and then claiming 'North Korea provoked it' to justify imposing martial law," emphasizing, "These matters must be uncovered through investigations into insurrection and related offenses."
