Proactive Response to 'Weather Anomalies and Natural Disasters'
Gohung-gun, Jeonnam Province (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced on the 16th that it has secured a total of 41.8 billion KRW (23 billion KRW from national and provincial funds) for five new disaster prevention projects under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety for 2025.
Disaster prevention projects aim to minimize damage to residents from natural disasters such as heavy rainfall, typhoons, and landslides caused by rapidly changing weather anomalies. The purpose is to prevent natural disasters by eliminating risk factors in areas where disasters have occurred in the past or where there is a high risk of disaster occurrence.
The five new projects for next year include: ▲ Daheung 1 District Natural Disaster Risk Improvement Project in Geumsan-myeon (32.1 billion KRW) ▲ Two districts for landslide risk improvement projects in Baegil (Wonjudo), Gwaryeok-myeon and Bongyang District, Pungyang-myeon (5 billion KRW) ▲ Two districts for disaster-risk reservoir improvement projects in Wangju, Namyang-myeon and Wolpoha, Geumsan-myeon (5.7 billion KRW).
The Daheung 1 District project will start with basic and detailed design services next year, aiming for completion in 2028. The four other districts, including landslide risk improvement and disaster-risk reservoir improvement projects, are targeted for completion in 2026.
Governor Gong Yeong-min stated, “Disaster prevention projects save three to four times more budget compared to post-disaster recovery.” He added, “We will do our best to secure national and provincial funds for disaster prevention projects to proactively implement disaster countermeasures and revitalize the local construction economy.”
