Dongseo University (President Jang Je-guk) Asia Future Design Institute, BK21 Future Video Content Creative Convergence Education and Research Group, and BK21 Service Design-Based Global Social Innovation Education and Research Team announced on the 16th that they held the International Fall Academic Conference on Cultural Content Specialization from the 12th to the 13th at the 6th floor International Seminar Room of the UI-T Building at Dongseo University.
This fall international academic conference was planned with the purpose of sharing opinions among experts from various fields about the changing paradigms of design and content in the AI era, along with the fusion with regional culture, which is emerging as an important artistic cultural archetype, involving researchers and artists active in Korea, the United States, China, Japan, and New Zealand.
Jang Ju-young, Dean of the College of Design at Dongseo University, opened the event by emphasizing, “Faced with the challenge of digital technology, our task is to reinterpret the unique assets of the region to build a platform that preserves and communicates the identity of regional culture. This academic conference will be a time to hear visions for creating new artistic and cultural experiences.”
On the 12th, the event began with a keynote lecture titled “Film in the AI Era” by Shin Cheol, CEO of Shin Cine and Executive Committee Chair of the Bucheon Fantastic International Film Festival. This was followed by lectures on “Video Film Production Using Generative AI and Trends in Video AI Technology” by Kim Min-ho, CEO of imK Production; “Automation and the Craftsman Spirit in VFX” by Jang Jeong-min, an artist at WETA-FX in New Zealand; and “Possibilities and Creative Characteristics of Video Expression in the AI Era” by Professor Lee Yong-wook of the College of Applied Arts.
Subsequently, a panel discussion was held under the moderation of Choi Won-ho (Dongseo University), head of the Future Video Content Creative Convergence Group. Based on the previous lectures by CEO Shin Cheol, CEO Kim Min-ho, and artist Jang Jeong-min, the panel exchanged views on technology and humanity in the AI era and held a Q&A session with students.
At the keynote on the 13th, Professor Xin Lijun (Vice President of Beijing Film Academy) delivered a lecture titled “From Presentation to Expression: The Evolution of Chinese Animation.” There was also a special exhibition introducing the media art work “Plastic Landscape,” currently on display in Busan, by Professor Han Yoon-jung (San Jose State University, USA, media artist). Additionally, Professor Lee Jun-seok (Dongseo University) highlighted coursework focusing on professional production methodology research centered on practical project cases.
In the closing remarks, Choi Won-ho, head of the Future Video Content Creative Convergence Education and Research Group at Dongseo University, stated, “Design and content influence human life and society like air, so we researchers must prepare for creation and research in the post-human era based on new perspectives.”
