On the 16th, the county held the ‘2024 Strategic Project Implementation Results Report Meeting’ at the county office’s large conference room, attended by Governor Seo Tae-won, the deputy governor, directors, and heads of all departments.

The meeting was held to review the progress of Gapyeong-gun’s major pending projects and key strategic initiatives, and to discuss the selection and direction of strategic projects for 2025. The county stated that the 50 strategic projects for 2024 were promoted with a focus on laying the foundation and growth engine for Gapyeong-gun under the vision of “A city that blossoms nature into economy.”

One of the major achievements announced by Gapyeong-gun this year was the active securing of external funds, which laid the groundwork for regional development. They secured 40 billion KRW from the Regional Balanced Development Project and 7.2 billion KRW from the Local Extinction Response Fund, which accelerated the progress of strategic projects such as the creation of the US-Commonwealth Tourism Security Park, installation of children’s play and experience facilities by residential area, and the opening of urban planning roads.

Additionally, long-term projects such as the revitalization of the rural center in Gapyeong-eup, expansion and paving of rural and county roads, and improvement of resource circulation center infrastructure were completed within 2024, establishing core infrastructure for regional development.

Successful hosting of local festivals such as the Jaraseom Flower Festa and Jazz Festival enhanced the regional brand value, attracted more visitors, and significantly contributed to the expansion of the resident population.

In particular, long-standing projects such as the road construction project from Hacheon IC to Goseong (Homyeong Tunnel), the two-lane road construction from Dumil to Daebo, and the two-lane road construction from Sangpan to Jeokmok were selected as part of the Northern Gyeonggi Grand Renovation Project and the Eastern Gyeonggi Social Overhead Capital (SOC) Development Plan, which is expected to greatly improve Gapyeong-gun’s transportation conditions.

However, some shortcomings were also identified during the implementation of the 2024 key strategic projects, and the county plans to prepare specific solutions to address these issues and ensure smooth project progress.

A Gapyeong-gun official stated, “There were parts where project progress was delayed due to lack of secured budgets, administrative procedure delays, and complaints in some projects. However, despite difficult conditions, all public officials worked together, resulting in a 61% completion rate for the major projects of the 8th local government term, showing smooth progress.”

Governor Seo Tae-won emphasized at the meeting that among the 50 strategic projects, 22 major projects with low progress rates should be selected and pursued with even stronger determination to achieve the goals.

The county especially selected the following as key projects to be promoted in 2025: securing the Local Extinction Response Fund, hosting the 2025 Gyeonggi Province Comprehensive Sports Competition, creating the US-Commonwealth Tourism Security Park, establishing children’s play and experience facilities by residential area, promoting the Opportunity Development Special Zone, constructing a park golf course, building a new organic animal protection center, expanding the metropolitan road network, establishing the Gapyeong Data Center, constructing the Gapyeong Health Medical Center, and expanding the integrated water intake and purification plant in Gapyeong.

Governor Seo Tae-won said, “We will thoroughly analyze projects with slow progress among the selected strategic projects and do our best to complete them within the 8th local government term. Going forward, we will focus all our capabilities together with over 830 public officials to realize policies that residents can truly feel.”
