In May, organizations called for the Constitutional Court to swiftly execute the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, urging the restoration of democracy and the rule of law.

The three 5.18 public law organizations (the Bereaved Families Association, the Injured Association, and the Meritorious Persons Association) along with the 5.18 Memorial Foundation issued a press release on the 16th, stating, "We urge the Constitutional Court justices to proceed quickly and make a correct judgment regarding the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol."

The organizations pointed out, "Despite the overwhelming passage of the National Assembly's impeachment motion against President Yoon, he has not acknowledged responsibility for his criminal acts; instead, through a public address, he brazenly confronted the people. This behavior disregards the solemn judgment of the people and appears as if he is using the Constitutional Court justices as his shield."

They continued, "Such suspicions must be dispelled, and a fair and just decision must be made. The Constitutional Court must remember that it is the guardian of the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, not a servant swayed by specific powers, and through this impeachment trial, it must uphold the values of democracy and the rule of law."

The organizations also stated, "Above all, the impeachment process should be handled swiftly without delay to minimize public confusion and promote national stability," adding, "We strongly urge the prompt removal of President Yoon to stabilize the government and take the lead in restoring the nation's tarnished honor and democracy."
