AI Antigen Detected at Laying Hen Farm in Cheongyang... Emergency Quarantine Implemented

Chungnam Province announced on the 16th that a highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI, H5 type) antigen was detected at a laying hen farm in Cheongyang.

This farm was raising 140,000 laying hens, and the province has initiated emergency quarantine measures, including culling.

The Provincial Animal Hygiene Laboratory confirmed the presence of the H5 antigen through a detailed inspection after receiving a report of increased mortality from the farm on the 15th.

The province dispatched an initial quarantine team to the affected farm and began implementing control measures such as restricting access and conducting epidemiological investigations. In addition, a 24-hour standstill order was issued from 4 a.m. on the 16th to 4 a.m. on the 17th for all poultry farms, related livestock facilities, and livestock vehicles in the province.

Furthermore, a 10 km quarantine zone has been established around the affected farm, and detailed inspections are being conducted on 21 poultry farms within this area.

A provincial official stated, "We will do our utmost to prevent further spread and minimize damage to farms through emergency quarantine measures mobilizing all available personnel and equipment."

Meanwhile, there have been 10 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks at farms nationwide this year: one each in Gangwon, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, Incheon, and Sejong, and two each in Jeonbuk and Jeonnam.
