"Bought It Because It Was Pretty, but It's a Kim Hojoong Lightstick" Buyer Furious
"Shouldn't You Have Told Me in Advance?"
On the 14th, as the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol was passed in the National Assembly, a netizen’s story about an unexpected experience after purchasing a lightstick secondhand to participate in a rally came to light.
Recently, a post titled "Got Scammed Buying a Lightstick" was uploaded on an online community. The author, Mr. A, who identified himself as a mid-30s person not very familiar with idols, explained, "Last week, I attended a rally with a friend and noticed that the lightsticks others were holding were really pretty. So, I posted on the secondhand trading platform 'Danggeun Market' saying, 'I will buy lightsticks regardless of idol or actor.'"
Later, a user contacted Mr. A and said, "I will sell you a lightstick for 3,000 won," sending a photo. Mr. A said, "The lightstick looked like ring candy and was very pretty," adding, "Since even the ones sold at Daiso cost about 2,000 to 3,000 won, getting an idol lightstick for 3,000 won felt like a bargain. I immediately arranged the transaction and sent the money after meeting." He continued, "At the end, when I greeted the seller and asked, 'By the way, whose lightstick is this?' the seller shyly replied, 'Kim Ho-joong,' and walked away. I was stunned and couldn’t say a word. Isn’t he in detention now?" he expressed his outrage.
Mr. A lamented, "Even though I said it didn’t matter whose it was, shouldn’t they have told me beforehand if it was Kim Ho-joong’s? I’m going to Yeouido again tomorrow, so where am I supposed to get one? It’s frustrating." He concluded, "It was my fault for not asking in advance, but I really wasn’t interested in idols. So, I didn’t care whose it was. It was so pretty for 3,000 won that I just thought I had to buy it quickly. Can I even bring this to the rally?" he vented his frustration.
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "It’s a sad story but so funny," "The lightstick is pretty indeed," and "Even if it were me, I wouldn’t have thought it was Kim Ho-joong’s lightstick."

Meanwhile, Kim Ho-joong was involved in a hit-and-run incident in May on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, while driving under the influence. After crashing into a taxi on the opposite lane, he fled the scene. He initially denied the charges by having his manager turn himself in on his behalf but admitted to the crime ten days after the accident. He was also suspected of using the 'sultagi' method, deliberately drinking more alcohol after the accident to avoid drunk driving punishment. He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison in the first trial and immediately appealed. His detention period was extended, and he is set to remain in custody until February next year.
