Applied 'All Wheel Steering' to Wheels
Stable During Lane Change and Cornering
The Volkswagen mid-large sport utility vehicle (SUV) Touareg is equipped with an ‘All Wheel Steering’ system that adjusts the steering angles of all four wheels. At speeds below 37 km/h, the front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions, allowing the vehicle to turn quickly and smoothly like a small car. When the speed exceeds 37 km/h, the wheels turn in the same direction. This enables stable, gliding-like movement during lane changes or cornering.
Another feature that enhances ride comfort is the air suspension. It allows the vehicle height to be lowered by 40 mm or raised up to 70 mm depending on the driving mode, a feature typically found in high-end vehicles priced around 100 million KRW. The self-leveling and electronic damper control system ensures a comfortable interior even when driving over uneven surfaces. At higher speeds, the vehicle automatically lowers its height for more stable driving.
The recently launched 3rd generation facelifted new Touareg in Korea features a newly added ‘Roof Load Sensor.’ This function detects cargo on the vehicle’s roof and adjusts ride comfort and driving performance accordingly. When the center of gravity is high, even if the suspension supports well, the vehicle’s movement can become unstable. This sensor works in conjunction with the vehicle control system and drivetrain to enhance driving stability and deliver dynamic performance.
The IQ.Light HD Matrix Headlights system was applied for the first time in a Volkswagen vehicle. Approximately 38,000 LEDs optimize lighting based on driving speed, camera, and navigation information. New features include ‘Red Light,’ which projects a light carpet on the current or intended lane; ‘Lane Light Lane Change Warning,’ which projects linear lighting in the warning area when a vehicle is detected during lane changes; and ‘Coming Home / Leaving Home Light,’ which greets the driver when opening the door or turning off the ignition. Without any manual operation, 12 lighting modes automatically recognize and respond to the surrounding environment.
Additionally, the advanced driver assistance system IQ.Drive is standard. It integrates Cross Traffic Assist, which detects traffic at intersections and warns of blind spots or applies emergency braking, active cruise control, and lane assist. There is also a proactive occupant protection system that protects passengers against accident risks in all areas.
Paired with a permanent all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission, the vehicle delivers a maximum output of 286 horsepower and a peak torque of 61.2 kg·m. The official fuel efficiency is 10.8 km per liter. Prices are 100.99 million KRW for the Prestige trim and 106.99 million KRW for the R-Line (including VAT). A trade-in discount of 3.3 million KRW and a repurchase discount of 1.65 million KRW are offered. The vehicle comes with a 5-year/150,000 km warranty, and a service that covers the deductible up to five times when insurance repairs are done at official centers.
