The '2040 Mid- to Long-Term Development Plan,' commissioned to the Korea Institute of Public Administration, focuses on setting the city's future vision and goals, strengthening urban competitiveness, and pursuing citizen-centered sustainable development. The plan will be established for the entire Osan area spanning eight neighborhoods, divided into ▲short-term (2025?2027) ▲mid-term (2028?2033) ▲long-term (2034?2040) phases.
The main initiatives include ▲population and regional economic revitalization ▲creation of advanced industrial complexes ▲improvement of transportation and urban infrastructure ▲development of specialized projects reflecting local identity. Mayor Lee stated, "The mid- to long-term development plan is the cornerstone for Osan's future growth," adding, "Multifaceted research will be conducted to enhance urban competitiveness in preparation for the era of a self-sufficient city with a population of 500,000."
Mayor Lee particularly expressed the intention to strengthen not only hardware such as social overhead capital (SOC) projects related to population growth and urban expansion due to the settlement of Segyo 2 District and urban development of Segyo 3 District and Unamtteul AI City, but also software sectors including economy, education, and welfare in this service. This is to promptly realize the plans pursued by Osan City during the 8th local government term, such as transportation revolution and the realization of a semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment specialized city.
Mayor Lee requested, "Please distinguish between major metropolitan transportation improvement measures such as the extension of the Byeongjeom-Gwanggyo Line and Bundang Line to Segyo District, the extension of the Seoul Metropolitan Area Express Railway (GTX) Line C to Osan, and the extension of the KTX from Suwon to Osan, as well as short-term projects like bus routes, and prepare appropriate measures by sector."
The city plans to strengthen urban competitiveness and promote sustainable development by preparing a concrete and feasible mid- to long-term development plan through cooperation between citizens and experts. To this end, the city intends to actively encourage citizen participation through surveys, resident briefings, and public hearings during the planning process.
