Busan City Holds Opening Ceremony for 'Dong Gimhae Nadeulmok to Sikman Junction Expressway'

November 16th, 11 AM at Dong Gimhae Interchange, attended by Mayor Park Hyung-jun, National Assembly members, Gangseo District Mayor, Gimhae Mayor, etc.

Official opening from 3 PM on the 17th, expected 12-minute travel from Gimhae to Sasang after Daejeo Bridge opening

Busan City will hold an opening ceremony for the "Dong Gimhae Interchange (IC) to Sikman Junction (JCT) Metropolitan Road" at 11 a.m. on the 16th around Dong Gimhae Interchange (IC).

About 200 people, including Mayor Park, members of the National Assembly, the chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Council, the vice chairman of the Busan City Council, the head of Gangseo District Office, the mayor of Gimhae, and local residents, are expected to attend the ceremony.

This road connects Dong Gimhae Interchange (Eobang-dong, Gimhae City) and Sikman Junction (Sikman-dong, Gangseo-gu), consisting of 5 bridge connections and 2 intersections over a total length of 4.6 km. The total project cost was 89.7 billion KRW (44.4 billion KRW from the national government and 45.3 billion KRW from the city).

After being selected as a metropolitan road project site in December 2007, it underwent a preliminary feasibility study and total project cost adjustments. The city signed a project implementation agreement with Gimhae City in 2017 and started construction in November 2019.

With this opening, Dong Gimhae Interchange (IC) will be directly connected to National Route 14 and National Local Route 69, a hinterland road for the New Port, which is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on the Namhae Expressway, Nakdongbuk-ro, and Gimhae-daero, known for habitual traffic jams, and significantly reduce travel time to major hub facilities in the western Busan area, including Busan New Port.

The travel time from Dong Gimhae Interchange to Busan New Port will be reduced by 10 minutes, or 35%, from 28 minutes to 18 minutes, and the travel time to Jinyeong Station will be shortened by 6 minutes, or 28%, from 21 minutes to 15 minutes.

In particular, once the under-construction Daejeo Bridge opens, the travel time from Gimhae (Dong Gimhae Interchange) to Sasang (Deokpo-dong) is expected to be reduced by 10 minutes, or 45%, allowing the section to be traversed in just 12 minutes.

The "Dong Gimhae Interchange (IC) to Sikman Junction (JCT) Metropolitan Road" will officially open at 3 p.m. on the 17th, following the opening ceremony on the 16th.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, "With this opening, we expect to resolve traffic congestion in the habitual congestion areas of western Busan and significantly reduce travel times to major hub facilities. Especially, together with the future construction of the Daejeo Bridge, this will serve as a foundation for dramatically improving the transportation network in western Busan."
