Argentina Internet Broadcast Host Accident
Robbers Attack During Live Broadcast from Vehicle
They Came on Motorcycles and Stole Phone
A famous internet broadcaster from Argentina became a hot topic after a live broadcast from a vehicle showed the moment their mobile phone was stolen in real time. While some view this as a reflection of the local security situation, others suspect the incident was staged for the broadcast.
On the 14th (local time), the British Daily Mail reported, "Micaela Ibanez (21, stage name Milica), a well-known streamer from Argentina, conducted a Twitch broadcast from a vehicle with acquaintances on the 10th." Ibanez is an influencer with over 3 million subscribers and followers across Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, and X (formerly Twitter).
On the day of the incident, they interacted with viewers by showing live Christmas shopping in the Once district of Buenos Aires. However, while Ibanez was broadcasting inside the car, the incident occurred. The robbers approached on a motorcycle beside the vehicle, broke the window, and quickly stole the mobile phone placed on the dashboard before fleeing.
The scene of the robbers breaking the car window and snatching the phone was captured live on the broadcast. They wore motorcycle helmets, making it difficult to identify their faces, and left the scene still on the motorcycle. The broadcast continued for a few seconds after the phone was stolen, and Ibanez reportedly sustained minor injuries from glass shards. Although she has broadcasted in several countries such as Spain, Chile, Mexico, and Colombia, this was reportedly her first live broadcast in her home country.
However, local police stated they have not received an official robbery report from Ibanez. Netizens expressed concerns about local security while some suspected that Ibanez might have staged the incident.
Argentina is classified as a travel advisory country by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is considered relatively safe among Latin American countries, but ongoing economic difficulties have worsened security. On the 4th of last month, a news crew covering a series of robberies in Argentina had their equipment and bags stolen by robbers at the same location.
