One hundred citizens of Gwangju engaged in a heated discussion on ways to reduce the three major causes of death: traffic accidents, suicides, and industrial accidents.
On the 16th, Gwangju City announced that it recently held the "100 Citizens' Discussion Forum for Reducing the Three Major Causes of Death" at the city hall's medium conference room, with participation from the Policy Support Group, Citizen Action Group, and relevant departments.
The "Three Major Causes of Death Reduction Project" has been focusing on preventing safety accidents through creating safe environments in various sectors and providing administrative service support since March last year, as well as spreading a culture of safety through citizen action campaigns.
During the forum, presentations on the project's progress and policy directions were given, followed by discussions on various topics including ▲ achievements and limitations of the Citizen Action Group's activities ▲ ways to revitalize the Citizen Action Group ▲ policy recommendations that Gwangju City should pursue.
Participants proposed establishing regulations to support the Citizen Action Group, creating a representative homepage or SNS channels for communication and information sharing, assigning clear roles and fostering pride, and operating predictable programs to increase participation rates.
Based on the results of the forum, the city plans to reselect next year's directions and tasks. Additionally, it intends to expand the activity areas of the Citizen Action Group and actively encourage participation to continuously promote the reduction of the three major causes of death with the involvement of all citizens.
Baek Bok-hwan, Director of the Citizen Safety Office, said, "We will make greater efforts to create a safe city of Gwangju based on the various opinions gathered from this forum aimed at spreading public consensus on reducing the three major causes of death," adding, "Safety accidents should be prevented rather than managed afterward. Citizens' safety awareness and practice must come first."
