"Impeachment Passed... A Time When Democracy and the Constitution Breathe Alive"
Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam Province, expressed his thoughts on the passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol, stating, "As a citizen, I warmly welcome the National Assembly's decision to impeach."
On the 14th, Kim posted on his SNS describing the "moment of impeachment passage" as a time when democracy and the constitution are alive and breathing, writing, "It is an educational and globally proud event that the people and the National Assembly proceeded very peacefully according to the procedures prescribed by the constitution."
Kim said, "Seeing parents and children engage in dialogue and participate together at the rally, I saw a bright future for the Republic of Korea. I hope that constitutional institutions will create a path that fully reflects the will of the sovereign people," and expressed joy, saying, "We can now properly teach our children what democracy is and what the spirit of the constitution means."
Earlier, on the 4th, he addressed the citizens gathered in front of the National Assembly, saying, "The hundreds of thousands of citizens gathered at the National Assembly practicing square democracy show that 'the past and the dead are helping and saving the present and the living,'" and paid tribute by saying, "The fist rice balls of May 18 Gwangju have transformed into drinks and kimbap, and the great unity of May Gwangju is being repeated with solidarity and love."
He added, "At that time, state violence triumphed, damaging the constitution and democracy and leaving us with historical trauma, but now the people have triumphed, overcoming historical trauma and establishing a true constitutional order where popular sovereignty governs the state," expressing his agreement with the passage of the impeachment.
In particular, he quoted a saying from former President Kim Dae-jung: "Life becomes more beautiful the more you think about it, and history progresses forward," concluding, "We can proudly say that our constitutional history has developed through a long journey into a democratic republic constitution that the world can be proud of."
