54th National Sports Festival Ssireum Representative 1st Selection Competition
Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) held the 27th Ulsan Metropolitan City Superintendent's Cup Ssireum Tournament on the 14th at the Ssireum arena of Muryong Middle School in Jung-gu, Ulsan.
This tournament was held concurrently as the first selection round for the Ssireum representatives for the 54th National Youth Sports Festival, with about 60 students from elementary, middle, and high schools in the Ulsan area participating to compete in their skills.

Organized with the goal of expanding the base of Ssireum participants and discovering outstanding players, the tournament was divided into three weight classes for the elementary division (lightweight, middleweight, jangsa class), two weight classes for the middle school division (lightweight, middleweight), and one unified jangsa class for the high school division.
The Ulsan Office of Education expects that the players will improve their skills through this tournament and raise Ulsan's prestige at next year's National Youth Sports Festival and National Sports Festival.
Ssireum has recently established itself as a flagship sport of Ulsan by achieving excellent results at the National Sports Festival. At the 53rd National Youth Sports Festival held last May, Ulsan won three gold medals and one bronze medal, and at the 105th National Sports Festival, it earned one gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals.
An official from the Ulsan Office of Education said, "We hope this tournament will serve as a stepping stone for the growth of the players, and we plan to actively support the development of Ssireum going forward."
