Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation Signs MOU with Korea Arab Society... "Attracting Arab Tourists Ahead of APEC"

Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation (President Kim Nam-il) announced on the 15th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for cooperation in the cultural tourism sector with the Korea-Arab Society (Secretary General Kim Chang-mo) at the Trade Tower of the Korea International Trade Association in Seoul.

This agreement was prepared to reexamine the millennium-old exchange history between Silla and the Arab world and to expand cultural and tourism exchanges between Gyeongbuk and the Arab region based on this. In particular, this agreement is expected to serve as a cornerstone to strengthen Gyeongbuk’s international status and to advance it as a global cultural tourism hub, as the 2025 APEC Summit will be held in Gyeongju.

The Korea-Arab Society, established in 2008 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, works to promote mutual understanding and cooperation in various fields such as economy, culture, arts, and academia between Korea and Arab countries. Especially based on its experience in successfully carrying out numerous cooperation projects in the cultural and tourism sectors, it plans to create a practical cooperation model between Gyeongbuk and the Arab region through this agreement.

Both organizations agreed to hold various cultural exchange events in Gyeongbuk, including invitation events for Arab youth and cultural artists, cultural performances, and seminars. Through this, they plan to strengthen Gyeongbuk’s cultural ties with the Arab region and actively promote Gyeongbuk’s tourism resources to the Arab world to attract more tourists to visit Gyeongbuk. Additionally, by modernly reinterpreting the millennium exchange history between Silla and the Arab world and developing it into tourism content, they will focus on establishing Gyeongbuk as a global tourist destination.

In particular, Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation plans to cooperate with the Korea-Arab Society to develop customized programs and tourism products that can attract tourists from the Arab region, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy. The corporation will jointly develop and operate various cultural tourism programs to revitalize the Bomun Complex, such as exchanges to reexamine the historical significance of Silla and Arab culture and co-hosting Arab cultural festivals, thereby strengthening the relationship between Gyeongbuk and the Arab region and striving to create new tourism demand.

President Kim Nam-il said, “This agreement will be an important opportunity to open up new modern cultural and tourism cooperation based on the long-standing exchange history between Silla and the Arab world,” and added, “Ahead of the 2025 APEC Summit, we will strengthen continuous exchanges and cooperation so that Gyeongbuk can establish itself as an international cultural tourism hub.”
