All Five Elected Supreme Council Members Resign
Wonsoondong, Floor Leader, Also Leaves Position Decision to Others
All five elected Supreme Council members of the People Power Party have expressed their intention to resign. First, Supreme Council members In Yo-han, Kim Min-jeon, Jang Dong-hyuk, and Jin Jong-oh of the People Power Party announced their resignation at an emergency party members' meeting held immediately after the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol was passed in the National Assembly plenary session on the 14th. Subsequently, Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won also expressed his intention to resign through Facebook.
Supreme Council member Kim stated, "I have continuously advocated overcoming this comprehensive crisis as a united conservative front." He added, "Nevertheless, today's situation has resulted in the party's division tactics, failing to move forward as a united conservative front and effectively granting a pardon to Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party." He continued, "As a member of the People Power Party leadership, I believe no one can be free from this responsibility," and said, "This is about taking appropriate responsibility for the authority granted to the party leader and Supreme Council members by our party members and supporters. Therefore, I will immediately resign from my position as Supreme Council member."
With all elected Supreme Council members expressing their intention to resign, the Han Dong-hoon leadership is entering a collapse phase. According to the People Power Party's constitution and regulations, if four or more of the five elected Supreme Council members resign, the Supreme Council is dissolved, and the party transitions to an emergency committee system.
However, Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the People Power Party, dismissed questions about his resignation immediately after the motion's passage, stating to reporters, "I will continue to perform my duties." When asked about the possibility of transitioning to an emergency committee system, he said, "The impeachment decision has just been made, and it must be a confusing situation, so let's give it some time."
Meanwhile, Kwon Seong-dong, the pro-Yoon floor leader who decided the party's stance as 'opposing impeachment,' is reported to have left his position to the discretion of the party members, taking responsibility for the passage of the impeachment motion.
