People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy: "Impeachment of Yoon Seok-yeol Passed, Power of Citizens Protecting Democracy"

As the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol was passed, the People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy (PSPD) evaluated it as a victory for the people and demanded a swift investigation.

PSPD stated in a press release immediately after the National Assembly vote on the impeachment motion held on the afternoon of the 14th, where all 300 members of the National Assembly attended and the motion was passed with 204 votes in favor, 85 against, 3 abstentions, and 8 invalid votes, “This vote by the National Assembly is a natural outcome that responds to the public demand that the president cannot be tolerated in office for even one more day,” adding, “It is the resolute will of the people who cannot recognize as head of state someone who has thrown away the democracy and constitutional order, protected with blood, for his own power and safety.”

They continued, “This is only the beginning of the judgment against the president and his collaborators in the rebellion,” and urged, “The Constitutional Court must conclude the trial as soon as possible and respond to the people's demand to dismiss Yoon Suk-yeol.”

PSPD also stated, “We hope that the National Assembly and investigative agencies thoroughly investigate the facts of the rebellion committed by the president and his accomplices and their criminal acts,” emphasizing, “In particular, considering the gravity of the crimes and the possibility of evidence destruction, it is appropriate to conduct a detention investigation of the president.”

Finally, they criticized, “During this voting process, we clearly identified which political forces obstructed the impeachment and acted as a shield for the rebel forces,” and stated, “The People Power Party, which prioritized only its political interests, is a group that caused the tragedy of two presidential impeachments in modern Korean history, and must take responsibility for colluding in rebellion and for being the ruling party during the impeachment regime and be disbanded.”
