After the Democratic Party's Closed Supreme Council Meeting
Chief Spokesperson Jo Seung-rae: "Hope to Uphold the People's Will"
The Democratic Party of Korea urged the members of the People Power Party to vote in favor of the second impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol. The National Assembly is scheduled for a second vote at 4 p.m. on the 14th, following the dismissal of the first impeachment motion due to insufficient quorum on the 7th.
Chief Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae met with reporters at the National Assembly that morning and said, "Today in the plenary session, the Democratic Party took a firm and resolute stance," adding, "We have made a determination to ensure that President Yoon is impeached." He continued, "We also agreed that we hope members of the People Power Party will participate in the impeachment vote according to their conscience and uphold the will of the people to impeach President Yoon."
On the 12th, six opposition parties submitted a motion to impeach President Yoon Seok-yeol to the National Assembly's Legislative Affairs Office. Chief Spokesperson Cho explained, "Whether ruling party members participate in the vote will likely be decided based on the results of the People Power Party’s caucus," adding, "Since the situation has not been confirmed, this message is directed at the People Power Party members." The People Power Party is holding a caucus at the National Assembly starting from 10 a.m.
He stated, "We hope they do not make the mistake of completely boycotting the vote as they did last time," and added, "It is appropriate to allow individual members to vote according to their own conscience through a 'free vote'." He further said, "That is the way to uphold the will of the people." The People Power Party had decided as a party not to participate in the plenary vote during the first impeachment motion against President Yoon on the 7th.
