This move follows the collapse of the government led by former Prime Minister Michel Barnier. On the 5th, the French National Assembly passed a vote of no confidence against the government, proposed by the left-wing coalition New Popular Front (NFP). The no-confidence motion was supported not only by the NFP but also by far-right parties and their sympathizers.

The opposition demanded that the President also take responsibility for the political turmoil and resign, but President Macron rejected this and sought a new Prime Minister.

The French government operates under a semi-presidential system that combines presidential and parliamentary elements, where the President has the authority to appoint the Prime Minister, and the Parliament holds the power to pass votes of no confidence against the government.
