Pre-Inspection of E/S and E/L Facilities, Additional Line 5 Train Operations Planned
Seoul Metro will implement focused safety management measures at major stations ahead of the downtown rally on the 14th.
This is to prevent accidents caused by large crowds and to provide citizens with safe and comfortable transportation.
On the day of the rally, the 14th, the company plans to deploy an additional 149 safety personnel at a total of eight stations where an increase in passengers is expected: ▲Lines 1 and 2 City Hall Station ▲Line 5 Gwanghwamun Station ▲Line 5 Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station ▲Line 5 Gongdeok Station ▲Line 5 Yeouido Station ▲Line 5 Yeouinaru Station ▲Line 5 Singil Station. They will focus on guiding subway passengers and maintaining order.
At these stations, non-stop train passage may be implemented depending on congestion such as passenger surges. Even after the rally ends, control measures such as closing station entrances may be enforced if passenger overcrowding is anticipated inside the stations. Police will be stationed around station entrances to maintain order, and support from police personnel will be requested as needed for non-stop train passage and entrance control.
Safety management conditions will also be intensively inspected ahead of the event. From the 12th to the 13th, the normal operation of convenience facilities such as elevators and escalators, as well as major facilities inside the stations, will be checked. At Line 5 Yeouido Station, maintenance personnel for convenience facilities will be on standby at all times.
Additionally, to alleviate station congestion, additional Line 5 trains will be operated. Along with emergency standby trains, two temporary trains will be added and operated four times in total to disperse passengers. Announcements inside trains will also be strengthened depending on the situation and the increase in temporary trains.
The company plans to inform citizens about subway operations through various information channels. Information about the situation will be provided via destination information displays inside trains and stations, the company’s website, the company’s social media channels (SNS), and the ‘Ttota Subway’ application.
Information can be checked on the company’s website and the company’s social media channel X (formerly Twitter).
Park Byung-seop, Head of Safety Management at Seoul Metro, said, “Due to the large crowds expected to use the subway for this weekend’s rally, we have prepared safety management measures in advance. We will do our best to ensure that citizens can use the subway with peace of mind through thorough and flawless safety management.”
