Gwangju Nam-gu, Donation Campaign with 'Jajangmyeon Coupons and Contest Prize Money' Gwangju Nam-gu Office Building Exterior.

In Nam-gu, Gwangju, residents are voluntarily continuing donations to support vulnerable groups, filling the community with warmth and love.

According to Nam-gu on the 13th, Yang Su-hyeok, the owner of the Chinese restaurant Hao near Mudeung Market, recently donated 200 coupons for jajangmyeon worth 25,000 KRW each to the district office. Despite the challenging business conditions due to the economic downturn, he generously contributed coupons worth a total of 5 million KRW to ensure that children do not skip meals.

The coupons were first distributed, one per student, to 40 students at a local elementary school who were at risk of food insecurity. The remaining 160 coupons are scheduled to be given early next year to students living in Juwol 1 and 2-dong and Wolsan 4 and 5-dong.

Owner Yang has long provided Chinese cuisine at affordable prices to help stabilize prices and reduce dining expenses for consumers. His restaurant has been recognized as a Good Price Business by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

Lee Yoon-kyung, CEO of Lala Factory, recently donated 500,000 KRW prize money received from the ‘2024 Gwangju-style Integrated Care Best Practice Contest’ hosted by the Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare and Gwangju City. Lee won the grand prize for a touching video she created based on her experiences providing meal services to seniors in Nam-gu this year. The prize money will be used to support vulnerable residents in the community.

Kim Jin-eun, CEO of The Eden Furniture Department Store in Jinwol-dong, also participated in practicing neighborly love by donating goods worth 6 million KRW. The donated items include four luxury sofas valued at approximately 1.5 million KRW each. These sofas have been delivered to four locations, including group homes for vulnerable children and group homes for people with disabilities, where they are being put to good use.

Additionally, employees of the Gwangju Environmental Corporation collected 1% of their salaries to donate 1 million KRW to Baegun 2-dong. The donation was used to cover wallpapering and flooring replacement costs for elderly households living alone.

A district official said, “We thank all the donors who have sent warm love to our neighbors,” adding, “Unwavering support and interest in those in need are like a lighthouse that brightly illuminates the dark places in our society.”
