"Directly Linked to National Competitiveness Through Semiconductor Ecosystem Expansion"
On the afternoon of the 12th, Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, visited the Government Sejong Complex and met with Baek Won-guk, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to request the Ministry's support for expanding Yongin's railway infrastructure, the city announced on the 13th.

At this meeting, Mayor Lee handed over related materials to Vice Minister Baek, asking that the upcoming '5th National Railway Network Construction Plan,' scheduled to be established next year, include ▲ the establishment of the Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway and ▲ the extension of the Gyeonggang Line to ensure the success of the large-scale semiconductor belt project underway in Yongin. He also requested assistance for the swift promotion of the Bundang Line extension, which was reflected in the '4th National Railway Network Construction Plan' in 2021. At the same time, Mayor Lee delivered a petition signed by about 21,000 residents of Cheoin-gu who hope for the extension of the Gyeonggang Line.
In the materials delivered to Vice Minister Baek, Mayor Lee emphasized that "the 'Gyeonggang Line extension' project, which passes through the 'Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex,' is an essential project for fostering the semiconductor industry and creating living conditions for specialized personnel." This project connects 37.97 km from Gyeonggang Line Gyeonggi Gwangju Station branching off to Yongin Idong and Namsa, where the system semiconductor complex is located.
Mayor Lee also stressed that the inclusion of the 50.7 km 'Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway,' connecting Seoul Sports Complex Station, Suseo Station, Seongnam Pangyo, Yongin Sinbong and Seongbok-dong, Suwon Gwanggyo, and Hwaseong Bongdam in the National Railway Network Construction Plan, is a project essential for creating a semiconductor ecosystem.
He also requested support for the swift promotion of the Bundang Line extension, which branches off from Suin-Bundang Line Giheung Station to connect to Line 1 Osan University Station. Mayor Lee explained, "The Bundang Line extension will be a key axis connecting major economic hubs of the city such as the advanced system semiconductor complex and 'Platform City.' Since it has already been confirmed as a new project in the National Railway Network Construction Plan, the project needs to be accelerated."
