To create a daily life-oriented and citizen-experienced veterans culture by installing 6.25 War-related sculptures at popular tourist and citizen spots, a sculpture introducing the local battle of Changnyeong-Yeongsan was installed.

The Changnyeong-Yeongsan Battle, also known as the Naktong Bulge Battle, was a fierce 33-day fight during the early stages of the 6.25 War along the Naktong River defense line in the Changnyeong-Yeongsan area, where the Republic of Korea Army and United Nations forces fought against the North Korean army.

The U.S. 24th Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, 1st Marine Brigade, and the ROK 17th Regiment confronted the North Korean 2nd, 4th, and 9th Divisions, decisively defeating the North Korean forces through active defense and bold counterattacks, securing victory. As a result, the North Korean attempt to occupy Changnyeong and Yeongsan with three divisions and subsequently block the U.S. 8th Army’s retreat route in the Miryang area was thwarted.

By engaging more than three North Korean divisions in the Changnyeong-Yeongsan area, the ROK and UN forces not only held the Naktong River defense line but also supported the success of the Incheon Landing Operation.

Director Cho Kyung-chul of the Veterans Affairs Office expressed, “We extend our gratitude for the sacrifice and dedication of the veterans who gave their lives for freedom and peace. The 6.25 War ‘Bike Hearoad’ will serve as an opportunity to remember the war and to once again reflect on the preciousness of peace.”
