Dongducheon-si Conducts 'Visiting Useful Microorganisms Environmental Class' Education Program

Visit to Soyodong Jijunghae Kids Leader Daycare Center for 30 Children Aged 5-7

Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyung-deok) announced on the 12th that it conducted an Effective Microorganisms (EM) environmental education session for 30 children aged 5 to 7 at the Mediterranean Kids Leader Daycare Center (Director Jung Mi-young) located in Soyodong on the 11th.

This education program was planned to expand the age group of participants, which had previously been limited to adolescents aged 12 and older and adults, to include children who will lead future generations. It aimed to explain Effective Microorganisms (EM) and teach how to use them to instill a sense of environmental protection.

The education was conducted in two sessions, dividing the children into groups of 5-year-olds and 6- to 7-year-olds. In particular, the program included EM theory education tailored to the children's level, an EM-based memory game to stimulate their interest, and a hands-on activity making EM soap.

A Dongducheon City official said, “We prepared the education to suit the children's perspective as much as possible on the challenging topic of the environment. During the sessions, the children actively participated with continuous laughter, making it a precious time that gave us a lot of energy.” He added, “We will strive to visit more daycare centers next year.”
