The regional media art hub center, ‘Gwangju Media Art Platform (G.MAP)’, announced on the 12th that it will present the 2024 Digital Art Culture Lab exhibition titled ‘Gwangju, Embracing Light’ from the 13th to the 27th.

This exhibition will take place on the 1st to 3rd floors of the Gwangju Media Art Platform in Nam-gu, featuring works that showcase the creative ideas of 10 teams of emerging digital artists (Project Lab) from Gwangju, Jeonnam, and across the country, as well as 8 teams of aspiring artists (Incubating Lab). Visitors will experience a variety of visual presentations including immersive media art, kinetic art, anamorphic art, and sound performances created by these artists.

The ‘Digital Art Culture Lab’ project aims to enhance the status of Gwangju, a UNESCO Media Arts Creative City, and to establish it as a global hub city for digital art creation and production. The project focuses on nurturing creators in the digital art field and researching and developing content to be showcased at G.MAP.

To ensure improved outcomes both in creative planning and technical aspects, employees from cultural and artistic specialized companies such as LG HelloVision, Dotmill, and Silo Lab participated directly as mentors for the Culture Lab program participants’ works.

During the first three days starting from the 13th, a production presentation (showcase) will be held where visitors can explore the artists’ creative intentions, processes, and works. Outstanding works will be selected through evaluations by judges. During this period, visitor participation events will also be conducted. Participants in the stamp tour and exhibition satisfaction survey will receive prizes.

Kim Seong-bae, Director of Culture and Sports, said, “It is meaningful to be able to present high-quality works to the citizens of Gwangju through the inaugural Digital Art Culture Lab project,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to help UNESCO Creative City Gwangju advance as a global hub city for digital art creation and production.”
