The Democratic Party of Korea reaffirmed its plan to file the second impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 12th (today), report it to the plenary session on the following day, the 13th, and put it to a vote on the 14th.
No Jong-myeon, the Democratic Party's floor spokesperson, told reporters after a party meeting at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 12th, "As scheduled, we decided to vote on the impeachment motion on the 14th," adding, "The report will be made tomorrow, and the vote will take place at 5 p.m. the day after tomorrow." He continued, "There were opinions that the schedule should be moved up a bit, but the content of the impeachment motion is very important," and "It is almost finalized, and only the filing procedure remains."
On the 12th, Park Seong-jun of the Democratic Party of Korea, Shin Jang-sik of the Joguk Innovation Party, Cheon Ha-ram of the Reform New Party, Jeon Jong-deok of the Progressive Party, Yong Hye-in of the Basic Income Party, and Han Chang-min of the Social Democratic Party submitted the "Request for a National Investigation into the Emergency Martial Law and Treason Acts of the Yoon Seok-yeol Government" to the National Assembly's Legislative Affairs Office. Earlier, following President Yoon's statement in the morning that "the declaration of martial law was inevitable," some voices called for "processing President Yoon's impeachment motion as soon as possible." However, within the Democratic Party, there was a consensus that the content of the impeachment motion must be precise. Accordingly, Spokesperson No reiterated that the impeachment motion would be handled according to the planned schedule.
Regarding the content of the impeachment motion, Spokesperson No said, "Broadly speaking, the motion includes two main points: 'rule by presidential decree' and 'habitual exercise of veto power,'" adding, "We are supplementing the content related to charges of treason."
Meanwhile, the opposition parties, including the Democratic Party, submitted a request for a parliamentary investigation into President Yoon and the government, who triggered the December 3 martial law incident. In addition to the impeachment motion against President Yoon, it is expected that all possible measures, including a special prosecutor and a parliamentary investigation, will be mobilized. Also,
the Democratic Party adopted and announced a party-level 'Resolution Urging the Swift Arrest and Investigation of President Yoon' in protest against the president's morning statement.
