The Ulsan Education Digital Museum was launched as a foundational platform to digitize and share materials related to Ulsan education, aiming to systematically collect, manage, preserve, and utilize historical educational materials of Ulsan.

Since early this year, the Research Information Center has been working on building the digital museum website and preparing the physical space.

They collected basic educational materials scattered throughout the region and digitized collections from 20 local schools, along with conducting literature surveys.

Three rooms within the Research Information Center were newly renovated to serve as workrooms, storage, and exhibition spaces, and a search station was installed at the Starlight Cafe on the first floor of the Science Hall for the convenience of citizens.

About 20 people attended the event, including Superintendent of Education Cheon Chang-su, Chairman of the City Council Education Committee Ahn Dae-ryong, education committee members, and presidents of elementary, middle, and high school principals.

The Ulsan Education Digital Museum is organized to allow systematic access to the historical changes in Ulsan education by enabling searches of records by school, period, and theme. Currently, over 6,000 public records such as books, publications, documents, and photographs are available.

Additionally, a section called ‘Ulsan Education Story’ was created to help understand the role and position of education in Ulsan, an industrial city during the era of modern industrialization.

In particular, graduation photos, school registers, and records of teachers and staff from 12 schools with histories of over 100 years, including Eonyang Elementary, Byeongyeong Elementary, Ulsan Elementary, Yangsa Elementary, Nam-mok Elementary, and Bangojin Elementary, have been digitized and classified with indexes for provision.

The Research Information Center plans to continue collecting and digitizing additional materials for the Ulsan Education Digital Museum until 2025. Teaching and learning guides will also be uploaded to develop educational materials utilizing the museum’s digital resources.

Superintendent Cheon Chang-su said, “The Ulsan Education Digital Museum is meaningful as a channel that gathers educational materials scattered throughout Ulsan, connecting the past and the future and facilitating communication,” adding, “We will operate it as a participatory museum involving citizens, including training local citizen record researchers in the future.”
