Ara Gimpo Passenger Terminal~Gimpo Daesuro~Gimpo Jangneungsan
Section length 10.8 km...Estimated time 3 hours 25 minutes
The Gyeonggi Dullegil ‘Gimpo Course 57’ starts in front of Ara Gimpo Passenger Terminal, passes Daebocheon, Gimpo Daesuro, Hyeonsu 2-gyo Intersection, Pungmu Intersection, and ends at Gimpo Jangneung Mountain Rest Area. The section length is 10.8 km, with an estimated time of 3 hours and 25 minutes. The walking difficulty is ‘very easy’.
The starting point, Ara Gimpo Passenger Terminal, is a place where you can see sightseeing boats traveling along the Gyeongin Ara Waterway. You can also enjoy ‘mulmeong,’ which means zoning out while watching the water. The Gyeongin Ara Waterway is Korea’s first inland canal, extending from the lower Han River in Gimpo City to the sea in front of Yeongjongdo, Incheon. Here, stamp the starting stamp featuring ‘Gimpo Daesuro’ and begin your journey. Gimpo Daesuro is a 16 km long artificial waterway that supplies agricultural water from the Sin-gok Underwater Weir in Gochon-eup, lower Han River, to Bongseongpocheon in Yangchon-eup. The 2.7 km section passing through Han River New Town has been developed as a waterfront space and is called the ‘Golden Waterway.’
After walking along the Ara Waterway briefly, you will change direction toward the Gimpo Plain at the boundary between Gimpo and Incheon. The Gimpo Plain is a depositional plain developed in the Gulpo Stream basin of Gimpo City and the southern bank of the lower Han River. Gimpo rice was once presented to the king. The discovery of carbonized rice from 5,000 years ago confirms that rice farming has been practiced in the Gimpo Plain since ancient times.
Walking lightly along Gimpo Daesuro, which can be called the lifeline of the Gimpo Plain, you will encounter walkways, rest areas, and waterfront stages for various cultural events. Beyond the fields, you can see the new town with rows of apartment buildings.
Crossing the Gyeyang Stream that flows from Incheon, you enter the Pungmu-dong New Town. Well-maintained roads and street parks welcome walkers. After passing Pungmu Intersection and leaving the urban area, following the forest path around Jangneung leads you to the entrance of Gimpo Jangneung. Gimpo Jangneung is the royal tomb of Wonjong, the fifth son of King Seonjo of Joseon and father of King Injo, and his wife Queen Inheon Gu. It is a twin tomb where the king and queen are placed side by side on one hill. It consists of a shrine, a lotus pond, and a reservoir.
