Muan-gun Ranks 5th Nationwide in Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index

Analysis of 80 Indicators and 250 Data Items Through Comprehensive Survey

Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) achieved 5th place nationwide among counties and 1st place among counties in Jeollanam-do in the 'Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index' evaluation conducted by the Korea Institute of Public Administration.


According to the county on the 12th, the Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index has analyzed regional competitiveness annually since 1996 for 226 local governments nationwide. It evaluates three areas (management resources, management activities, and management performance) by conducting a full survey and analysis of 80 official government statistical indicators and 250 data points, and then sums the scores of each category to assess overall competitiveness.

In this year's evaluation, Muan County ranked 5th in the management resources category and 7th in the management performance category among 82 counties nationwide, and was the only city or county in the province to enter the top 5 nationwide.


In particular, it significantly exceeded the national average for cities, counties, and districts in urban infrastructure, population vitality, health and welfare, and public safety. The evaluation also showed that Muan County's regional competitiveness has been steadily rising over the past three years, ranking 14th in 2022, 8th in 2023, and 5th in 2024.


Governor Kim San said, "The results of various efforts during the 7th to 8th elected terms are reflected through objective indicators. Moving forward, we will work together with 100,000 residents and over 800 public officials to further strengthen regional competitiveness by smoothly completing the development of Oryong 2 District, improving cultural, sports, and welfare living conditions in rural areas, and reinforcing the regional industrial base through the creation of the K-Food convergence complex."
