Daegu City Council overwhelmingly approves TK administrative integration during 'emergency martial law' situation... Gyeongbuk Province says "long-term task under review"

The Daegu Metropolitan Council (Chairman Lee Man-gyu) held a plenary session on the 12th and overwhelmingly approved the TK administrative integration.

During the session, the Daegu Metropolitan Council voted on the agenda item "Presentation of Opinions on the Integration of Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province," with 31 out of 32 council members voting in favor.

The Planning and Administration Committee of the Daegu Metropolitan Council, which is the standing committee for TK administrative integration, held a meeting on the 3rd, where 5 out of 6 members, excluding one Democratic Party member, approved the agenda and forwarded it to the plenary session.

Meanwhile, Gyeongbuk Province and the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council are reportedly preparing to pass the TK administrative integration initiative to a long-term project, as the momentum has been lost at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Local Era Committee due to the aftermath of the "emergency martial law."

Although the Gyeongbuk Provincial Council formed a special committee for TK administrative integration with 22 council members on November 21, it is known that the activities have not been very active. A Gyeongbuk Provincial Council official stated, "Opposition to administrative integration is intensifying in the northern Gyeongbuk areas such as Andong and Yecheon, and recent political circumstances have weakened the central government's driving force," adding, "It seems unlikely that the administrative integration agenda will be submitted to the standing committee or plenary session next year."
