Hanjin Obtains Lithium Battery Transport Certification... Strengthening Special Cargo Business

Hanjin announced on the 12th that it has obtained the 'CEIV Lithium Battery Certification' from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Through this certification, Hanjin plans to make a full-scale entry into the global special cargo market and strengthen its competitiveness in air transportation.

Hanjin stated that on the 11th, it held a CEIV Lithium Battery Certification awarding ceremony in the large conference room on the 21st floor of the Hanjin Building located in Sogong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.

The CEIV Lithium Battery Certification is an international standard certification issued by IATA to companies that demonstrate international transportation expertise and excellence after a thorough evaluation of 254 items including lithium battery transportation procedures, facilities, equipment, and regulations. Since lithium batteries pose risks of fire or explosion, they are classified as hazardous materials under the UN regulations as 'Class 9'. Accordingly, IATA implements this international standard certification system to ensure the safety of lithium battery logistics transportation.

Through the IATA CEIV Lithium Battery Certification training process, Hanjin has cultivated specialized personnel for special cargo air transportation and enhanced the stability of logistics operations. Typically, obtaining this certification requires going through training, evaluation, and verification processes before reaching the final certification stage; however, Hanjin completed the certification early without any non-conformities during the evaluation process. This early certification is the first of its kind in Korea.

Hanjin plans to accelerate air logistics orders not only from battery manufacturers but also related to automotive parts production (Auto Parts) in the future. This certification is evaluated as having created opportunities to expand business not only in simple air logistics such as storage and transportation services for global automobile companies, recycling of used batteries, and battery facility logistics but also into various other fields.

A Hanjin official said, "This certification serves as an opportunity to make a full-scale entry into the special cargo market and lays the foundation for expanding air forwarding sales," adding, "We expect to strengthen our position as a global integrated logistics company in the related market and anticipate synergy effects with various companies."
