Prosecutor General's Office on Launch of 'Yoon Naeran' Joint Investigation Headquarters: "Conducting Strict Investigation"

On the 11th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced that the Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, and the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters have launched a joint investigation headquarters for the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident,' stating that "the Special Investigation Headquarters will conduct a strict investigation into the ongoing cases regardless of rank or status."

The Supreme Prosecutors' Office, which had been waiting to coordinate a schedule for consultations to prevent overlapping investigations with the police and the Corruption Investigation Office, expressed bewilderment upon learning of the joint investigation headquarters' launch through the media on the same day.

However, the Prosecutors' Emergency Martial Law Special Investigation Headquarters stated that it will continue the joint investigation with the military prosecutors according to the planned schedule. Since the emergency martial law incident occurred on the 3rd of this month, the prosecution, police, and Corruption Investigation Office have all simultaneously entered a competitive investigation into President Yoon Seok-yeol's alleged charges of rebellion.

Due to controversies over overlapping investigations, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office sent official letters to the police and the Corruption Investigation Office on the 9th, proposing consultations related to the investigations.

The police and the Corruption Investigation Office expressed their willingness to participate in the consultations. The three agencies began coordinating specific schedules and attendees for face-to-face negotiations. However, on the afternoon of the same day, the Police National Investigation Headquarters issued a press release announcing the launch of the joint investigation headquarters together with the Corruption Investigation Office and the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters.

Accordingly, investigations related to the emergency martial law and charges of rebellion will proceed along two lines: the joint investigation headquarters formed by the police, Corruption Investigation Office, and Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters, and the prosecution's special investigation headquarters joined by military prosecutors.
