The modernization project for the Noeun Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market in Daejeon has gained momentum after being selected as a government-supported project.

On the 11th, the Daejeon Metropolitan Government announced that the Noeun Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market had been chosen as a target site for the public wholesale market modernization project by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, securing 130 billion KRW in national funding.

Opened in July 2001, the Noeun Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market has been causing significant inconvenience to both suppliers and citizens due to a lack of auction halls, stores, and inefficient logistics flow.

In response, the city conducted a feasibility analysis and established a basic plan for the market modernization project from September last year to June this year. After consultations with stakeholders, it decided to proceed with the modernization project.

The city submitted its application for the Noeun Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market modernization project in June this year and was selected as a target site after passing the first document review, the second on-site inspection, and the final presentation evaluation.

The city plans to invest 434.6 billion KRW (130 billion in national funding, 173.6 billion in loans, and 131 billion in local funding) to redevelop the existing site using a circulatory reconstruction method, building a total floor area of 74,967 square meters on a site of 112,282 square meters.

To align with the government's wholesale market policy, the city will establish an online logistics center, improve logistics through an IT-based joint delivery system, build advanced distribution systems such as cold storage, sorting, repackaging, and processing facilities, and expand user service facilities for one-stop shopping.

The city aims to be selected for the preliminary feasibility study in 2025, conduct the study in the second half of 2025, and pass the study in 2026 as part of its project timeline.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "Through the modernization project, we will do our utmost to ensure that the Noeun Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market can proactively respond to changes in agricultural and marine product distribution and become the leading wholesale market in the central region."
