Ranked 2nd Among 14 Local Governments Nationwide at the Drone Safety and Activation Support Project Performance Report Meeting
Ulsan Ulju-gun was selected as an excellent institution for K-Drone Delivery on the 11th and received the Chairman's Award from the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
On the same day, Ulju-gun was awarded 2nd place among 14 local governments nationwide at the '2024 Drone Safety and Activation Support Project Performance Report Meeting' held at the Mayfield Hotel in Seoul, hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and organized by the Aviation Safety Technology Institute.
Earlier in February, Ulju-gun was selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's public project, the '2024 Drone Demonstration City Construction Project,' and promoted the 'K-Drone Delivery Commercialization Project.' A total of 800 million KRW was invested, including 500 million KRW from the national government and 300 million KRW from the county, to establish infrastructure with 3 delivery hubs and 15 delivery points.
Before the project launch, essential preparations were made over about five months, including flight path construction and testing, delivery app development, distribution logistics consulting, safety management system training, special flight approval, and delivery packaging system development.
Starting with the 'Ulju-gun K-Drone Delivery Demonstration' on September 5, drone delivery operated every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., successfully concluding the project on the 29th of last month.
Drone delivery was handled by Vololand, headquartered in Cheongryang, Ulju-gun, achieving results such as 45 delivery days, 312 delivery cases, sales of 4 million KRW, and a cumulative delivery distance of 691 km during the project period.
Based on the results of this project, Ulju-gun plans to provide drone delivery services linked to vacation periods, including the beach opening season next year. They also intend to improve the service by increasing the delivery weight per trip to allow for larger orders.
Lee Soon-geol, the governor of Ulju-gun, said, "As drones come closer to daily life, we will strive to expand the service so that residents can feel its benefits and it becomes a universal service."
Meanwhile, Vololand Co., Ltd. was recognized at the performance report meeting for domestic production of core components such as FC (Flight Controller), GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), Edge Board (multifunctional execution), and batteries, receiving the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award as the top participating company.
