Broadcasting Commission's 2024 Budget Confirmed at 242.3 Billion Won... 8 Billion Won Decrease from This Year Kim Tae-gyu, Acting Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, Yonhap News

The Korea Communications Commission's budget for next year has been finalized at 242.3 billion KRW, a 3.2% (8 billion KRW) decrease compared to this year.


The KCC announced that the total budget of 242.3 billion KRW for next year was approved by the National Assembly plenary session on the 10th. The KCC allocated ▲45.4 billion KRW for realizing a digitally inclusive society without discrimination ▲12.5 billion KRW for creating a fair and safe broadcasting and telecommunications environment ▲47.5 billion KRW to support the growth of the media content industry, among others.


First, in preparation for the rapid development and spread of artificial intelligence (AI), a new budget item of 278 million KRW was set aside to build a foundation to protect users from risks such as discrimination, bias, or false and manipulated information in generative AI services.


To respond to illegal spam, a budget of 3.2 billion KRW was allocated for operating and advancing the spam blocking response system.


Additionally, 1.94 billion KRW was allocated for tailored educational support and user protection task evaluations aimed at strengthening damage prevention for digitally vulnerable groups.


A budget of 3.54 billion KRW was allocated for operating monitoring and investigative analysis systems to prevent user damage and unfair practices in the broadcasting and telecommunications market.


To support the overseas expansion of domestic online video services (OTT) and foster digital and media innovation growth, 600 million KRW will be provided to strengthen the competitiveness of the OTT industry through overseas market research and hosting international forums.


Finally, to contribute to enhancing viewers' rights, an additional 1.99 billion KRW was allocated to support EBS program production for youth programs' learning content creation and to carry out national projects linked to nurturing scientific talent.
