Mayor Kim Kyung-hee: "The Result of Citizens, Public Officials, Political Circles, Companies, and Organizations Working Together"
On the 11th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it has been selected for the 'Gyeonggi-type Science High School New Designation Phase 1 Preliminary Designation Contest Project' promoted by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.
With the completion of the Phase 1 preliminary designation for the Gyeonggi-do Science High School designation, the ▲ Phase 2 Special Purpose High School Designation and Operation Committee review ▲ Phase 3 Minister of Education approval procedures will proceed. The results of each phase are expected to be announced in January and March of next year, respectively.
Earlier, on the 7th of last month, the city and the Icheon Office of Education submitted an application to the provincial office of education including ▲ Gyeonggi Eastern Region Science Shared School ▲ plans for operating education programs linked with companies and research institutes ▲ and the willingness of the local community to accept it. The city believes it received high evaluations in this contest by emphasizing its strengths as a semiconductor-centered city and a semiconductor-specialized area where SK Hynix and the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology's Semiconductor Integrated Solution Center are located. The city plans to establish Icheon Science High School (tentative name) by 2030 once the final designation is confirmed.
Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon City, said, "This preliminary designation is the result of the dedicated efforts of 240,000 citizens, public officials, local political circles, related organizations, and companies working together to attract the science high school," adding, "We will focus all the city's capabilities until the final selection is made through the remaining Phase 2 and Phase 3 procedures."
