ASML Korea to Establish New Office in Yongin Semiconductor Cluster

Yongin City and 'Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness Enhancement' MOU
Technical Support for Semiconductor Equipment to SK Hynix

ASML, the world's No. 1 semiconductor equipment company, is establishing a new office in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

On the 11th, Yongin City announced that Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, and Choi Han-jong, CEO of ASML Korea, signed a "Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Strengthening Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness" at the city hall reception room. The agreement centers on establishing the company's new office within the cooperative complex in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu, inside the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster.

Yongin Semiconductor Cluster cooperative complex is a 451,000㎡ site being developed near the SK Hynix factory site to accommodate related materials, parts, and equipment companies.

Through this agreement, both parties agreed to join forces to enhance the competitiveness of semiconductor companies in the region and stabilize the semiconductor supply chain by building a foundation for technical support and maintenance of semiconductor equipment.

The city will actively support administrative procedures to enable ASML Korea to establish an office that will perform technical support and maintenance tasks necessary to operate cutting-edge semiconductor equipment near semiconductor fabs.

ASML Korea will nurture semiconductor industry talent through industry-academic-research programs linked with local universities. In particular, the company agreed to cooperate in hiring personnel from the Yongin area for the newly established office. The company plans to provide technical services to maintain the performance of advanced equipment for semiconductor-related companies, including SK Hynix located in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, and to build close cooperative relationships with these companies to expand the scope of collaboration.

Currently, ASML Korea operates offices in Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, Icheon, and Cheongju to provide on-site technical services for its equipment supplied to semiconductor fabs in Korea.

Mayor Lee said, "With ASML Korea moving into the cooperative complex of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, Yongin's semiconductor ecosystem will be further strengthened. I hope the company will also actively cooperate with local universities to greatly contribute to nurturing semiconductor professionals."

With ASML Korea's decision to move in, four of the world's top 10 semiconductor equipment companies have now established a presence in Yongin. Previously, Lam Research Korea opened a Technology Center in Jigok-dong, Giheung-gu in 2022 and relocated its headquarters and training center there this year. Tokyo Electron Korea secured a site in Yongin 2nd Techno Valley in Idong-eup after its location in Wonsam General Industrial Complex, Cheoin-gu. SEMES is currently constructing a technology development center in Gomae-dong, Giheung-gu, within the Giheung Future Urban High-tech Industrial Complex.
