Intelligent Flood Response System Enables Rapid Access Control

Gumi City in Gyeongbuk has been finally selected for the '2025 Advanced Information Technology Utilization Public Service Promotion Project' organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

This project is being promoted through collaboration between the Information and Communication Division and the River Division, with a total project cost of 930 million KRW (560 million KRW from the national government, 110 million KRW from the provincial government, and 260 million KRW from the city government).

Gumi City proposed the 'Smart Urban River Flood Response System Construction' to innovate public services using advanced information technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, and to lead the introduction of new models. With the selection of this project, a foundation has been established for citizens to safely use the river walking trails.

Moving away from the current method of manually installing control lines during rain, an automatic entry barrier will be installed, and an AI-based flood response system linked with weather data, water level detection sensors, and CCTV will be constructed. This system is scheduled to be completed by 2025, and the existing entry barriers at Geumo Stream and Gumi Stream will be upgraded to establish a more precise disaster response system.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “We will do our best to ensure that citizens can safely use urban rivers even during sudden heavy rains caused by climate change,” and added, “We will realize a smart safety city Gumi by combining advanced information technology with safety facilities.”
