Grand Cleos Thrives in the Fierce Battle of Mid-Size SUVs

Sales Increase for Three Consecutive Months After Launch
Top 4 Passenger Cars Last Month

Renault Korea's mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Grand Koleos, has been steadily increasing its sales since its launch. The mid-size SUV segment is considered the most competitive class, regardless of whether the brand is domestic or imported.

According to the monthly sales figures compiled by Renault Korea on the 11th, 6,582 units of this vehicle were sold last month. Following the official customer deliveries starting in September with 3,900 units and 5,296 units in October, sales have risen for three consecutive months. The increase continued with the addition of a gasoline model at the end of October, alongside the existing hybrid model. Last month, 6,082 hybrid units and 500 2.0 gasoline units were sold. The cumulative sales since launch have reached 15,912 units.

Among all passenger car models sold domestically last month, it ranked 4th in sales volume. Until now, the top 10 best-selling models have been virtually monopolized by Hyundai and Kia, but Renault Korea is seeing significant results with a new model released after four years.

The hybrid system applied offers excellent fuel efficiency, and the vehicle’s driving performance, quietness, and advanced technology have been recognized as products tailored to domestic demand. The E-Tech hybrid system applied to this vehicle combines a 4-cylinder 1.5ℓ gasoline direct injection turbo engine with a 100 kW driving electric motor and a 60 kW high-voltage starter motor that also functions as a generator, delivering a class-leading 245 horsepower. The driving electric motor assists smooth shifting, enabling fast and smooth gear changes with just a 3-speed transmission, resulting in quiet and comfortable driving.

The battery used in this vehicle is in a prismatic cell form, which is resistant to external shocks and has good durability. Among domestic mid-size hybrid vehicles, it is the only one to apply a water-cooled thermal management system that absorbs and dissipates heat generated from the cells through coolant, ranking it highly in terms of safety. In urban areas, it can operate in electric mode up to 75% of the time, and on highways and expressways, it achieves up to 40% fuel savings compared to the gasoline model (based on internal tests).

It also received praise for its quietness by being the first in its class to apply an active noise cancellation function that blocks external noise from entering the cabin. It uses 20-inch sound-absorbing tires made of foam material to reduce road and tire noise. Additionally, it is the first domestic brand to extend the vehicle display to the front passenger seat, allowing passengers to enjoy OTT or music streaming services.
