10,518 Citizens and Reporters Participate in Online Voting

Ulsan City announced on the 11th that the most outstanding municipal project of 2024 was selected as the ‘Designation of Ulsan Urban Convergence Special Zone.’

To this end, an online survey titled ‘Ulsan City Administration Best 5’ was conducted on the Ulsan City website from November 25 to December 6.

The survey results ranked △1st place ‘Designation of Ulsan Urban Convergence Special Zone’ △2nd place ‘Designation of Opportunity Development Special Zone’ △3rd place ‘Successful Hosting of the 2024 Ulsan Industrial Festival’ △4th place ‘Attracting the 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo’ △5th place ‘Completion of the Nation’s First Hydrogen Pilot City.’

A total of 10,518 participants, including 10,072 citizens, city council members, reporters, and public officials, took part in the survey.

The project ranked first, ‘Ulsan Urban Convergence Special Zone,’ aims to create an innovative space combining industry, residential, and culture around KTX Ulsan Station and Ulsan Technopark, targeting corporate investment attraction and youth job creation. Ulsan was designated as the largest scale nationwide by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on November 7.

The second-ranked ‘Opportunity Development Special Zone’ refers to a special zone designated to receive various tax benefits from the government for large-scale corporate investments. Ulsan has three designated districts (4.2 million square meters), including the next-generation secondary battery industry leading district, with plans for investments exceeding 22 trillion won and follow-up investments from partner companies.

The third-ranked ‘2024 Ulsan Industrial Festival’ is a grand harmony event where citizens and companies come together, marking its second year this year with over one million visitors.

The fourth-ranked ‘2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo’ is Ulsan’s largest international event with 31 participating countries and 13 million visitors expected, anticipated to add the charm of an ecological and garden city to the industrial city of Ulsan.

The fifth-ranked ‘Completion of the Nation’s First Hydrogen Pilot City’ includes the world’s first carbon-neutral hydrogen apartment, establishing Ulsan as a leading hydrogen city in name and reality.

Although not in the top five, welfare policies in the medical, transportation, and care sectors such as ‘Designation of two new Dalbit Children’s Hospitals,’ ‘Free bus fares for children in the city,’ and ‘Opening of Ulsan City Childcare Center’ also received significant attention from citizens.

Votes were evenly cast by gender, with participation by age group as follows: 3,210 (32%) in their 30s, 2,755 (27%) in their 40s, 1,897 (19%) in their 50s, and 1,351 (13%) in their 20s.

Ulsan City plans to award plaques to the departments responsible for the selected projects and grant additional performance evaluation points to the public officials in charge.

Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, “The goal of creating Ulsan, a dream city where industry and culture harmonize, has led to tangible results, and the recognition of these efforts by citizens is the most meaningful aspect,” adding, “We will strive even harder so that all citizens can take pride in saying, ‘Yes! Indeed! Ulsan!’”

Female participants showed preference for ‘Designation of two new Dalbit Children’s Hospitals’ and ‘Opening of Ulsan City Childcare Center.’

By age group, those in their 20s showed interest in the ‘Successful Hosting of the 2024 Ulsan World Prestigious Universities Rowing Festival,’ those in their 40s favored ‘Free bus fares for children in the city,’ and those aged 60 and above were interested in the ‘Successful Hosting of the 2024 Ulsan Industrial Festival.’
