Jeonju City Launches 'Single-Use Items Free Day' Campaign in Commercial District

Jeonju City in Jeollabuk-do announced on the 10th that it conducted a ‘Single-Use Item Free Day’ campaign to reduce single-use items in daily life in the commercial area of Pyeonghwa-dong.

On this day, the city appealed to local merchants and passersby in the densely populated area of Pyeonghwa-dong, focusing on the Flower Garden Jeongine Street and the shops near Kolon Apartments, to participate in reducing single-use items in daily life by using banners, signs, and notices.

The campaign was also joined by ‘Jeonju City Single-Use Item Reduction Citizen Activists,’ who encouraged voluntary participation from nearby merchants and citizens in carbon neutrality and green living through reducing single-use items.

Through this campaign, the city visited businesses subject to regulations on single-use items, such as restaurants and cafes, distributing promotional materials and notices, while also conducting publicity and guidance activities regarding regulated single-use item categories and proper recycling separation.

Lee Young-seop, Director of the Resource Circulation and Greenery Bureau of Jeonju City, said, “Since Pyeonghwa-dong is a representative commercial district densely packed with dining establishments frequently visited by not only local residents but also citizens for dining out, we hope residents and merchants will voluntarily take the lead in reducing single-use items and properly separating recyclables.”

He added, “We plan to continuously promote various activities to create a city that practices single-use item reduction and resource circulation.”

Meanwhile, the city has designated the 10th of every month as ‘Single-Use Item Free Day’ (1=single-use item, 0=zero) and operates campaigns on this day.
