Busan Gijang-gun has been selected as an "Excellent Institution in Busan City Cancer Management Project" in the "2024 Busan City National Cancer Management Project Evaluation" and will receive an institutional commendation.
This evaluation was prepared by Busan City to assess the overall performance of the national cancer management project across 16 districts and counties, share best practices, and explore directions for the development of the national cancer management project.
Gijang-gun was highly evaluated for actively promoting customized publicity for cancer screening targets, contributing to the improvement of the national cancer screening participation rate, and achieved the distinction of being selected as an excellent institution.
In addition, the county carries out various activities such as early cancer screening promotion and cancer prevention education tailored to regional characteristics, and expands health care services for low-income and medically vulnerable groups, including medical expense support for cancer patients and non-covered cost support for medical aid recipients.
In particular, by installing and operating on-site mobile counseling centers targeting crowded places such as Donghae Line stations, the county raises residents' awareness of national cancer early screening. Through one-on-one counseling, it provides guidance on the 10 major cancer prevention rules, national cancer screening programs, and medical expense support for cancer patients, promoting the habitual practice of cancer prevention rules and the importance of national cancer screening.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok said, “Since survival rates vary greatly depending on early detection of cancer, our county is promoting various support projects for cancer prevention and mortality reduction,” and added, “We will do our best to discover and promote projects for the health improvement of our residents.”
Gijang-gun has recently been receiving continuous recognition for its outstanding work performance in various national and city-level evaluations.
Recently, it achieved “No. 1 nationwide” in the county-level management performance category and “No. 3 nationwide” in comprehensive competitiveness at the county level in the Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) evaluation by the Korea Public Autonomy Research Institute.
