In particular, the newly designated affiliated stores include many cafes, hair salons, and convenience stores centered around Geumgok-dong, which was designated as a Dementia Safety Village this year, and nearby areas, enabling not only residents of the Safety Village but also residents of neighboring areas to receive dementia-friendly services.

A Dementia Safety Village is a village that takes the lead in creating a dementia-friendly environment based on correct understanding and awareness of dementia, and the expansion of dementia-friendly affiliated stores is part of establishing a dementia support system linked with the Safety Village.

Dementia-friendly affiliated stores carry out various dementia overcoming activities such as △providing dementia-related information △detecting, reporting, and temporarily protecting wandering elderly △encouraging early screening.

Designated affiliated stores are equipped with dementia-friendly affiliated store plaques and Dementia Safety Center support service guides so that citizens can easily recognize the affiliated stores and obtain dementia-related information.

Jung Tae-sik, director of Namyangju Public Health Center, said, “This expansion of designation linking Dementia Safety Villages and dementia-friendly affiliated stores is an effort to provide a safer environment for dementia patients and their families,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the support system so that Namyangju City can become a dementia-safe city.”

Namyangju City plans to expand Dementia Safety Villages, dementia-friendly affiliated stores, and dementia overcoming leading organizations throughout the community to provide practical help to dementia patients and their families and to do its best to create an environment where all citizens can understand and overcome dementia together.
