Chungnam Institute of History and Culture Forms Council of Regional Cultural Heritage Research Institutions

The Chungnam Institute of History and Culture announced on the 10th that a council of regional cultural heritage research institutes has been formed at the Chungcheongbuk-do Cultural Heritage Research Institute to promote mutual cooperation in the preservation, management, utilization, and research of cultural heritage.

The council includes the Gangwon Institute of History and Culture, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation Gyeonggi History and Culture Heritage Institute, Gyeongnam Research Institute Center for History and Culture, Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation Cultural Heritage Institute, Jeollanam-do Cultural Foundation Jeonnam Cultural Heritage Research Institute, and Chungcheongbuk-do Cultural Heritage Research Institute.

The council elected Choi Jongbo, Director of the Gangwon Institute of History and Culture, as its first president.

In addition, the council agreed to work together on the following: discovering and jointly addressing current issues related to cultural heritage; conducting and collaborating on regional studies; responding to legal systems and issues related to cultural heritage, proposing policies and new research; sharing information, education, promotion, and joint project proposals among institutions; and presenting opinions from each institution for the prompt resolution of pending matters.

The council expects that by maximizing the use of personnel and resources among its member institutions, it will be able to expand the cultural enjoyment rights of local residents based on cultural heritage, develop policies and business plans, and seek standardized methods for the preservation, management, utilization, and transmission of cultural heritage.
