DL E&C Develops AI Automatic Translation System to Enhance Communication with Foreign Workers

DL E&C announced on the 10th that it has applied an artificial intelligence (AI) automatic translation system to its communication platform 'EokkaedongmuM'. This is to facilitate smooth communication as the number of foreign workers at construction sites has recently increased.

In 2022, DL E&C independently developed and introduced EokkaedongmuM, a communication platform between managers and workers, to the field. EokkaedongmuM is a system that quickly and easily delivers information such as entry confirmation, safety notices, and work alerts through a chatbot on KakaoTalk.

The newly added AI automatic translation feature in EokkaedongmuM is based on the generative AI service ChatGPT. It provides real-time translations of key safety-related announcements, including safety rules to be followed on site and new risk factors due to changes in work.

Previously, when new announcements occurred on site, managers had to manually translate the Korean content into various languages and deliver it to foreign workers. However, by utilizing the automatic translation feature, announcements are automatically translated and delivered by language based on the nationality information of foreign workers.

DL E&C expects the AI automatic translation system to deliver safety information more quickly and accurately, contributing to strengthening foreign workers' safety awareness. They plan to expand this to various areas within construction sites, such as pre-work safety inspections (TBM) and safety accident case notifications, to foster a safety culture.

A DL E&C official said, "Our goal is to support all workers on site to work safely regardless of nationality," adding, "If we communicate clearly with foreign workers without language barriers through the AI translation feature, safety accidents can definitely be prevented."
