Sancheong-gun, 'Jirisan Premium Sancheong Gotgam' Officially Released for Shipment

Made with Korea's representative fruit Gojongsi, popular winter snack with various benefits

‘Jirisan Premium Sancheong Dried Persimmons’ made from Sancheong Gojongsi, which has been selected as Korea’s representative fruit for 9 consecutive years, are now being shipped in earnest.

On the 10th, Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced that it held the first sale ceremony for dried persimmons at the Sancheong Dried Persimmon Distribution Center in Sicheon-myeon.

The first sale ceremony was attended by about 80 people, including Lee Seunghwa, the county governor, Kim Suhan, chairman of the Sancheong County Council, as well as representatives from the Nonghyup, producers, and middlemen, who prayed for a bountiful harvest of Sancheong dried persimmons.

Sancheong dried persimmons are scheduled to reach consumers nationwide through auctions held every Tuesday and Friday until January 24 of next year. At the auctions, low-quality dried persimmons such as un-dried persimmons, moldy persimmons, improperly packaged persimmons, and other defective dried persimmons are prohibited from being shipped to enhance consumer trust.

In addition, to prevent infectious diseases during winter and ensure safety, the auction quantities will be distributed and shipped while adhering to safety regulations. Despite the impact of abnormal weather and pests this year, the harvest volume of raw persimmons has increased compared to previous years, raising expectations for a larger production of Sancheong dried persimmons.

Sancheong dried persimmons boast the highest quality due to the pristine natural environment surrounding Jirisan Mountain and accumulated cultivation techniques. Sancheong dried persimmons, the first in the nation to be registered under the Geographical Indication (GI) system in the dried persimmon sector, are rich in nutrients such as vitamins A and C, potassium, and magnesium.

They are popular as a healthy snack enjoyed by people of all ages during winter, with various benefits including fatigue recovery and prevention of various diseases and colds.

In particular, Sancheong Gojongsi, the elder persimmon variety of Sancheong dried persimmons, has maintained excellent quality, having been selected as the ‘Best’ in the forestry fruit category for 9 consecutive years at the 2023 Korea Representative Fruit Selection Contest.

Sancheong-gun plans to actively promote premium Sancheong dried persimmons through various events along with this first sale ceremony.

Governor Lee Seunghwa said, “We will further strengthen the foundation for producing high-quality dried persimmons to continue the reputation of Jirisan Premium Sancheong Dried Persimmons,” adding, “I hope everyone enjoys the taste of Sancheong dried persimmons, which boast the best flavor in Korea, and shares them as gifts or snacks with those around them.”
